Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox beat the Houston Astros 7-3 on Wednesday to finish a sweep of their American League wild-card series.

Chase Meidroth hit a three-run homer as Chicago built on a big first inning and closed out the series at Houston.

It is the White Sox’s first playoff series win since the 2005 World Series, when they also beat the Astros. The club, managed by Will Venable, had lost 100 games in each of the previous three seasons before this run.

The Astros, who finished 81-81, became the first team to reach the postseason without a winning record. Their home playoff struggles continued with the loss.

Chicago will face Cleveland in the AL Division Series starting Saturday.
