What’s happening tries to be accurate, clear, and fair. This page says how subjects are chosen, how stories are written, and how they are corrected.
Choosing subjects
Subjects come from what people in each country are searching for and reading about. A subject is written up only when there is published reporting to explain it. Subjects with no clear reporting behind them are left out.
How a story is written
Each story is drafted by an AI language model, working only from the reporting and public sources gathered for that subject. Those sources are listed under Reporting on the story. The model is told not to add facts the sources do not support, and to say what is not yet known.
Checks before publishing
A draft goes through automated checks before it is published. A story is held back when its sources are thin, when they disagree on the main facts, or when the draft does not match them. A held story is not published until better reporting appears.
Review and corrections
The publisher reviews published stories and corrects them when a mistake is found or reported. A material correction changes the text and the updated time on the page. To report a mistake, write to [email protected] with the address of the story and a source.
Updates
A story may be revised when new reporting appears, for example when a game ends or an announcement is confirmed. The updated time on the page changes when the text changes.
Sources
Stories draw on published news reporting and reference material such as Wikipedia. Links are there so a reader can check the underlying material and read the original work. Stories are short accounts in our own words, not copies of other articles.
Pictures
Story pictures are illustrations generated for the site, one for each kind of subject combined with the country’s flag. They are not photographs of the people or events in the story.
Sensitive subjects
Stories about deaths, crimes, accidents, and health stick to what the reporting establishes. They do not speculate about blame.
Independence
The site is supported by advertising. Advertisers do not choose subjects, see stories before publication, or change what a story says.
