Padres finish off Cubs in wild-card sweep, move on to the NLDS
The San Diego Padres are moving on after finishing off the Chicago Cubs in a two-game wild-card sweep.
San Diego’s pitching staff held Chicago to one run across 18 innings in the series, and the Padres closed it out with a 4-1 win.
The result sends the Padres into the National League Division Series against the Milwaukee Brewers, with Game 1 set for Saturday, Oct. 3, in Milwaukee.
The Brewers finished with the best record in Major League Baseball this season and have home-field advantage through the World Series.
