Real Madrid beat Racing Santander 3-0 as Mbappé scores

Real Madrid beat Racing Santander 3-0 in Santander on Sunday, extending their winning run to six matches across all competitions. Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Yan Diomande scored in a first-half display that kept Madrid close to the top of LaLiga.

Mbappé opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 11th minute. He went down after Racing midfielder Matteo Prati made only slight contact, prompting debate over the decision. Mbappé converted the kick for his 12th league goal of the season.

Madrid controlled much of the match, and Arda Güler created the second goal with a pass that sent Bellingham through on goal. The England midfielder took the ball past the goalkeeper and rolled it into the net. It was his 50th goal for Madrid since joining the Spanish club in 2023.

Diomande also found the net as Madrid built a three-goal lead before half-time. The result gave José Mourinho’s side another win in a six-game streak and left them third in the table, within three points of leaders Barcelona. They were one point behind city rivals Atlético Madrid.

Racing, also known as Racing de Santander, is based in the northern Spanish city of Santander and plays at El Sardinero. Founded in 1913, the club was among the original members of LaLiga. The home defeat came against one of Spain’s leading clubs, Real Madrid, who also compete in the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup and the Champions League.

The match followed a turbulent week for Mbappé. He had narrowly missed out on the Ballon d’Or to Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, then apologised after a video joking about former Chinese leader Mao Zedong caused backlash online. Chinese state television did not show this weekend’s Spanish fixtures amid the fallout.

Mourinho said Madrid had been strong in the first half and could have scored more from their chances. The win strengthens their position in the title race, though Barcelona remain ahead. The result establishes Madrid’s latest league points; the available match information does not specify the team’s next fixture.
