Juventus beat Napoli 2-0 as Alajbegovic and Boga end the deadlock

Juventus beat Napoli 2-0 on November 1, with second-half goals from Kerim Alajbegovic and Jérémie Boga securing a significant Serie A win for Luciano Spalletti’s side. The result offered Juventus a response after a difficult start to the season, while Napoli’s troubles deepened after the opening 10 rounds.

The match was goalless until Alajbegovic struck his first Serie A goal for Juventus. The Bosnian forward’s finish broke the stalemate and brought a previously quiet crowd at Allianz Stadium back to life. Boga then added the second with a curling right-footed shot from outside the box, assisted by Andrea Cambiaso.

Napoli had chances to respond. Billy Gilmour sent a shot narrowly wide after a corner, and Lorenzo Lucca had a header blocked. Rafa Marín also came close with a header late in the game, but Napoli could not turn its set-piece opportunities into a goal. Juventus held on to the two-goal margin.

The contest came amid significant absences on both sides: Juventus were without seven players and Napoli without nine. That opened the door for less familiar starting choices, including Juventus defender Juan Cabal, who was making his first start in nearly nine months. The match’s decisive contributions, though, came from Alajbegovic and Boga.

Spalletti also changed the shape of his team, moving away from a 3-5-2 to a 4-3-3. He said the change was his decision, not a response to pressure from the players. After the match, he praised their willingness to keep pushing and said the win could help restore confidence that had been missing.

Juventus, based in Turin, and Napoli, from Naples, are long-standing rivals in Italian football. Juventus is one of Italy’s oldest and most decorated clubs, and both teams compete in Serie A. The result matters to Juventus in the race for a place among the leading sides: it remains six points behind Como, while also answering recent challenges from Como and Milan.

For Spalletti, the win eased pressure on his position and gave Juventus a lift in front of its home supporters. Napoli, meanwhile, remain caught in a difficult run of form, compounded by their long injury list. The 2-0 result changes the immediate mood around both clubs, but leaves Juventus chasing the teams ahead and Napoli needing to find a way out of its slump.
