LASK 3-6 Liverpool: Barcola hits hat-trick in Champions League win

Liverpool beat LASK 6-3 in Linz on October 14, winning a nine-goal Champions League match after building a four-goal lead and then seeing the Austrian side fight back.

Bradley Barcola scored a hat-trick, his first goals for Liverpool since joining from Paris Saint-Germain. The forward had not scored or assisted in his first six appearances for the club.

Ronald Araujo scored his first goal for Liverpool, and Barcola added two goals before the break. Liverpool registered 19 first-half shots, a record for an away team in the first half of a Champions League match.

Jeremie Frimpong headed in Liverpool’s fourth six minutes after the restart, meeting a cross from Kostas Tsimikas.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez came on in the 62nd minute. LASK then scored three times: Robert Ljubicic found the net, and Florian Flecker scored twice late in the match.

Barcola completed his hat-trick with a close-range finish from Frimpong’s cross. Lewis Koumas added Liverpool’s sixth after having two earlier efforts ruled out for offside.

The 6-3 result gave Liverpool a Champions League win on the road, while LASK’s three late goals made the final score closer than the visitors’ early control had suggested.
