Mbappé’s late goal gives Real Madrid a 2-1 Clásico win over Barcelona

Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 at the Camp Nou on October 25, with Kylian Mbappé scoring the winner in the 87th minute. The result ended Barcelona’s unbeaten start in La Liga and brought Madrid to within three points of their rivals at the top of the table.

Mbappé had put Madrid ahead before Raphinha levelled for Barcelona. The equaliser brought the home side back into a breathless contest, but they could not find a second goal. Barcelona pushed for a winner, and Lamine Yamal sent a late effort narrowly wide.

Madrid’s decisive move came with only minutes remaining. Jude Bellingham beat his marker with a piece of skill and released Eduardo Camavinga, who raced forward and cut the ball back for Mbappé to finish. The goal silenced the Camp Nou and sparked celebrations among Madrid’s players.

The win matters in a title race that had looked comfortable for Barcelona. They had been the league’s leaders, and their first league defeat of the season means Madrid have a chance to close the gap. Atlético Madrid are also close behind, two points off Barcelona, leaving the leading places tightly contested.

For Barcelona, the loss ended a run of nine league matches without defeat and was their first failure to win at home since returning to the Camp Nou a year ago. It came after a midweek Champions League defeat at Paris Saint-Germain, making this a difficult stretch for Hansi Flick’s side.

Madrid’s victory was their first in Barcelona in three years. Mbappé’s opener came after Gerard Martín’s clearance struck him and went in, but the late winner was built through Bellingham and Camavinga’s movement. Madrid showed they could withstand Barcelona’s pressure and still create a decisive chance.

La Liga is Spain’s top professional football division, contested by 20 clubs across 38 matchdays. This Clásico—one of the league’s most consequential fixtures—has tightened the contest near the summit. The result is settled; the available details do not identify either club’s next fixture.
