What’s happening with Jack Campbell after his injury against Minnesota?

Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was taken to a hospital after suffering a neck injury during Sunday’s 19-15 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The team said he would remain at a local hospital overnight for continued evaluation and monitoring, with further updates to come.

The injury happened early in the fourth quarter. Campbell had just made his third tackle of the game after hitting Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. He was left face down on the field and was not moving as medical staff came to assess him.

Medical personnel strapped Campbell to a backboard and carefully lifted him onto a cart. Players from the Lions and most of the coaching staff gathered around as he was taken off the field. He was then transported to hospital for evaluation of the neck injury.

After Detroit’s win, head coach Dan Campbell said he did not have additional information about the linebacker’s condition. The team’s later statement confirmed the overnight stay but did not give a diagnosis or say how long he might be unavailable.

Jack Campbell is a starting linebacker and one of Detroit’s leading defensive players. The Lions selected him with the 18th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, after his college career at Iowa. His injury came in a game the team ultimately won by four points.

Campbell earned All-Pro recognition last season after recording more than 150 tackles, at least five sacks and three forced fumbles. He was the first NFL player in seven years to reach all three of those statistical marks in the same season, making his condition important to Detroit’s defense.

The Lions signed Campbell to a four-year contract extension last May that runs through the 2030 season. For now, the team has said only that he will remain in hospital overnight and that it will provide further information when available. No confirmed diagnosis or return timeline has been announced.
