Dallas Cowboys beat Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 behind a career night for Javonte Williams

The Dallas Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 on Monday night at Lincoln Financial Field, ending a run of losses in Philadelphia and getting back into the win column. The victory was Dallas’ first at the stadium since January 2022 and its third win of the season.

The Cowboys and Eagles are NFC East rivals, so the result carries weight beyond one game. Dallas improved to 3-4 and moved into second place in the division. Javonte Williams had a career night for the Cowboys, helping power an offense that found its footing against Philadelphia.

Dallas ran for 204 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries, while adding 212 passing yards. The rushing production was a sharp change from the team’s struggles on the ground going into Week 7. It also gave the Cowboys a way to move the ball without relying solely on quarterback Dak Prescott.

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Dallas needs to establish the run and keep doing it. Jones described the team as run-first, saying a successful ground game can open up other parts of the playbook and allow Prescott to work more often under center. He said the approach had worked acceptably well against Philadelphia.

Prescott played well in the win, but the shift toward the run gives the offense a different balance. A stronger ground attack can draw defenders toward the line and create opportunities for the passing game. Whether Dallas can carry that formula into the rest of the season remains to be seen.

Philadelphia still produced 321 yards and 21 points despite missing DeVonta Smith and playing with an injured Saquon Barkley. Tanner McKee, the Eagles’ backup quarterback, led the offense. Dallas’ defense improved after halftime, but the points and yards allowed left questions about a unit that remains a weakness.

The result gives Dallas a needed divisional win, but the Cowboys’ defensive performance remains an issue as they continue their season. Jones also discussed potential moves before the trade deadline during his weekly radio appearance; no specific move was established in the account. The Eagles, meanwhile, will have to address a loss that came despite a productive offensive showing from a depleted lineup.
