Barcelona rout Alavés 6-1 to return to the top of LaLiga

Barcelona beat Deportivo Alavés 6-1 in LaLiga, a result that put the Catalan club back at the top of the table. Lamine Yamal and Raphinha each scored twice, while Alavés managed one goal, from Mariano Díaz.

The emphatic win came after Barcelona had lost to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. Coach Hansi Flick said the response was what he wanted to see after those defeats. The victory was also his 100th as Barcelona manager.

Barcelona’s attack set the pace, but the scoreline also reflected problems for Alavés at the other end. The visitors had conceded four goals before half-time. Their defensive fragility proved costly against a Barcelona side able to punish mistakes.

Fermín López added to Barcelona’s threat with a goal and an assist, while Yamal and Raphinha supplied the two-goal returns. Mariano’s strike was Alavés’ consolation. The result gave Barcelona a decisive home win rather than a narrow recovery after their recent losses.

For Barcelona, reclaiming first place matters in a LaLiga race where every dropped point can alter the standings. The victory restored the team’s position at the summit and offered supporters a clear change of mood after the defeats to PSG and Real Madrid.

Alavés left Barcelona with six goals conceded and little reward for its approach. Its coach, Eduardo Coudet, had set up with four defenders and a strengthened midfield, but the team could not contain Barcelona’s quality and was already facing a steep deficit by the interval.

Barcelona’s next listed fixture is a Champions League meeting with Aston Villa on November 3. The 6-1 result leaves Flick’s team with renewed momentum going into that game, while Alavés will have to address the defensive shortcomings exposed in Barcelona.
