Knicks open title defense against 76ers with rings and banners

The New York Knicks opened their 2026-27 season at Madison Square Garden against the Philadelphia 76ers, raising banners and receiving their 2026 NBA championship rings.

New York also hung a banner for its NBA Cup title, reversing an earlier decision not to mark that achievement in the arena.

The rings were designed by Jason Arasheben of Jason of Beverly Hills. They are made of white gold and set with nearly 800 diamonds and blue sapphires, totaling 22 carats.

A turning mechanism raises a miniature of Madison Square Garden’s exterior. The ring opens to reveal a model of the arena’s lower bowl, while its removable top is detailed with the Garden’s ceiling design.

Player numbers from the championship roster wrap around the top. A 0.16-carat diamond nods to the Knicks’ 16-point comeback in Game 5, and 16 emerald-cut diamonds represent their postseason victories.

The rings also carry the engravings “Knicks in five” and “10 weeks,” the latter referring to the team’s stated championship-run mantra.

Philadelphia guard Tyrese Maxey recorded a 28-point, four-rebound, five-assist, three-steal and three-block line in the season opener. The available details do not establish the final score.
