Joey Porter Jr. lands in Dallas after Steelers contract standoff

The Dallas Cowboys have acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers after extension talks stalled in Pittsburgh. The deal sent Porter to Dallas for a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick.
Porter, 26, has not played this season. He was on the Steelers’ PUP list after a back injury, and the move ended a stretch of uncertainty around his future with the team.
The Cowboys do not plan to sign Porter to a long-term extension right away. He is in the final year of his rookie contract and carries a $4.9 million cap hit.
Porter was a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft after playing at Penn State, and he is the son of former NFL linebacker Joey Porter. Dallas has been trying to reshape its defense, and this trade adds another cornerback to that effort.
