Selma Blair charged after alleged flight and hospital assaults

Actor Selma Blair was charged with two counts of second-degree assault after an incident aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York and a series of alleged assaults after landing.

Police detained Blair around 11 p.m. Sunday after the plane reached the gate at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Blair and one flight attendant were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Authorities accused Blair of injuring two flight attendants during the flight. The available details do not establish exactly what happened in the cabin.

Charging documents say Blair kicked a police officer repeatedly while the officer was securing her to a stretcher for transport to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. A nurse later said Blair kicked her in the chest.

Blair was arraigned Monday evening in Queens Criminal Court. Her attorney, Shawn Barnes, said the actions were not intentional and that Blair had missed several doses of medication for severe neurological symptoms.

Barnes also told the court that Blair, who has multiple sclerosis, had worked long hours before boarding and hit her head during the flight. He said those factors and the altitude left her severely confused and disoriented.

Judge Indira Kahn set bail at $20,000 cash or a $60,000 bond. The assault allegations have not been resolved in court.
