Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig 4-1 to extend perfect Champions League start

Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig 4-1 in the Champions League on October 21, giving the Spanish club a third win from three games in the competition’s league phase.

Bernardo Silva opened the scoring late in a tight first half, putting Madrid ahead at home. The goal was his first for the club.

Arda Güler made it 2-0 soon after the break. Kylian Mbappé then bent in Madrid’s third, continuing a run of scoring in each of the team’s Champions League games this season.

RB Leipzig, the German visitors, responded through Tidiam Gomis. Yan Diomande restored Madrid’s three-goal margin late on with a volley into the top corner.

Jude Bellingham helped drive Madrid’s attack during his 87 minutes on the pitch. He recorded three key passes and the match’s highest open-play passing threat, measured by expected threat.

Federico Valverde led the match with 116 touches and 16 defensive actions, while Kylian Mbappé added an assist for Güler as well as his own goal.

Madrid have won all three of their Champions League matches so far, with five games left in this phase. Mbappé said the team was aiming to collect enough points to reach the top eight.
