Tansian University vice-chancellor Nnamdi Umeoduagu dies after inauguration

Professor Nnamdi Umeoduagu, the vice-chancellor of Tansian University in Umunya, Anambra State, died on Saturday, 3 October, a day after his inauguration as the university’s substantive vice-chancellor.

The private university held the inauguration on Friday, 2 October. Umeoduagu was a professor and had been formally appointed to lead the institution.

Fidelis Nwakwesili, the university’s chief press secretary, confirmed Umeoduagu’s death on Tuesday.

Nwakwesili also corrected accounts that suggested Umeoduagu had served as acting vice-chancellor for only two days before his death.

He said Umeoduagu had served in an acting capacity for about two months, while the previous substantive vice-chancellor, Eugene Nwadialor, was on medical leave and until his tenure ended on 30 September.

Tansian University has set up a panel to probe the vice-chancellor’s death. The available reports do not specify what the panel will examine.

They also do not state a cause of death.
