Bears beat Patriots 30-24 as Cairo Santos seals win with 58-yard kick

The Chicago Bears beat the New England Patriots 30-24 at Soldier Field on Thursday night, with a late field goal helping Chicago protect its lead.

Quarterback Caleb Williams and the Bears did enough to hold off New England in a close game.

Bears kicker Cairo Santos made a career-long 58-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. The kick put Chicago up by nine with 1:34 left.

Santos had missed a field goal earlier in the game, making the long kick a response to a frustrating moment.

Rhamondre Stevenson gave the Patriots a striking first-half moment with a 48-yard touchdown as the clock expired.

New England coach Mike Vrabel said Santos’ kick did not surprise him. Vrabel cut Santos when he coached the Tennessee Titans in 2019, and joked, “I think the last FG Cairo missed was when he kicked for the Titans. I don’t think he’s missed one since then.”

Santos has since spent seven seasons with Chicago, where he has converted nearly 88 percent of his field goals.
