Pakistan set England 303 after recovery in Rawalpindi ODI

Pakistan set England a target of 303 in the one-day international tri-series match in Rawalpindi, posting 302-9. England’s chase is underway; the match has not finished.

Pakistan lost Fakhar Zaman with the first ball of the innings and slipped to 81-4, putting their total in doubt.

Hasan Nawaz steadied the innings with 79. He helped rebuild through partnerships with Saad Baig and Arafat Minhas.

Minhas made 59, then added 72 runs from 49 balls with Faheem Ashraf. Their stand lifted Pakistan from 133-5 and gave the innings late momentum.

Pakistan’s tail added more runs in the closing overs, with Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf finding boundaries. England’s Sonny Baker took 3-65, while Jamie Overton finished with 1-38.

England need 303 to win. Rawalpindi has seen only one successful ODI chase of a higher total, a recent result that makes the target a demanding one.

The match is part of a tri-series with Sri Lanka. Before the game, England coach Brendon McCullum said his side would need to adapt to subcontinent conditions; the top two teams in the competition qualify for the October 31 final in Lahore.
