Chile beats Mexico 2-0 in Los Angeles friendly

Chile beat Mexico 2-0 at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, scoring both goals in the second half of their international friendly.

The teams went into halftime level after a balanced opening period. Mexico had more shots overall, but struggled to turn possession into clear chances.

Maximiliano Gutiérrez opened the scoring in the 54th minute, finishing a quick Chilean attack past Mexico goalkeeper Álex Padilla.

Vicente Pizarro made it 2-0 in the 65th minute. Chile won the ball back and moved forward before the midfielder finished the play.

Mexico tried to respond with efforts from outside the area. Santiago Giménez sent a shot wide, while Isaías Violante fired over the goal.

The win gave Chile a positive finish to its North American tour, which had included losses to Canada and the United States. The team, led by interim coach Nicolás Córdova, had lost 1-0 to Canada and 4-2 to the United States.

For Mexico coach Rafael Márquez, the defeat followed a 3-0 loss to the United States. Mexico had also drawn with Colombia and Peru, leaving Márquez still waiting for his first win in charge.
