France rally past Belgium with four late goals

France came from a goal down to beat Belgium 4-1 in their Nations League Group A1 match at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. The win moved France three points clear at the top of the group.

Belgium took the lead in the 35th minute when Dodi Lukébakio scored. The visitors were seeking their first competitive victory over France in 45 years.

France turned the match around with four goals in 14 minutes. Désiré Doué levelled with a low shot from the edge of the area in the 77th minute.

Four minutes later, Rayan Cherki put France ahead, finishing a cross from substitute Michael Olise. Olise then scored twice, including a goal in stoppage time, to complete the comeback.

The late goals gave Zinedine Zidane his first home win in charge of France and kept his unbeaten start as coach intact. Doué, Cherki and Olise had all come on from the bench.

France, the national team known as Les Bleus, had also beaten Belgium 1-0 in Brussels the previous week. The teams are European rivals with a long history of international meetings.

France now have 10 points in Group A1, three more than Italy and four more than Belgium. Italy beat Turkey 3-1 in the group’s other match, while France are due to face Italy in Milan next month.
