Bournemouth beat Sunderland 2-0 for first league win

Bournemouth beat Sunderland 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday, claiming their first Premier League win of the season and moving out of the relegation zone. The result was also Marco Rose’s first league victory since taking charge of Bournemouth.

The hosts struck in the sixth minute. Evanilson got past Kevin Danso and sent in a cross for Marcus Tavernier, who headed into an empty net.

Sunderland’s afternoon worsened in the 17th minute. Danso brought down Evanilson as the Bournemouth forward moved towards goal and was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

Despite playing with 10 men, Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs made several saves to keep his side in the match. Bournemouth eventually added a second, with Evanilson scoring after also setting up Tavernier’s opener.

The win ended Bournemouth’s wait for a Premier League victory under Rose. Both clubs had made five changes from their European matches on Thursday.

Sunderland had gone without a league win since August and arrived after a demanding trip to Leiria. The defeat left the club in the bottom three, with another European fixture in Poznan due in midweek.

Danso’s dismissal shaped the contest early, leaving Sunderland to defend with a player fewer for most of the match. Bournemouth made the advantage count with two goals and a clean sheet.
